Overview
Students at Dubai International Academic City look for internships across an area that takes hours to cross by bus. The usual job boards tell you what a company does and nothing about whether you could get to it on a Tuesday morning, so this directory puts the commute next to the role.
The list filters by field, emirate, district, free zone status and a maximum distance from your own address. Each company opens to what it does, the roles it commonly hires for, its technical areas and a note on how relevant it is to a computing student. The map draws the free zones and business districts, so the clusters around Internet City, Silicon Oasis and the DIFC are visible at a glance.
The dataset is the part that took the work. It is researched by a pipeline that searches for each company and then re-fetches every URL it is given before accepting it, and a verification script gates the data on duplicate URLs, shared coordinates, templated text and missing provenance.

Challenges
- Company data goes stale and is easy to invent. Every field carries a source URL, a retrieval date and a confidence level; anything without a source is left null and shown as unverified rather than guessed, and a verification script fails the build on duplicate URLs, shared coordinates or templated text.
- Commute time is the whole point, so it had to be real rather than a straight-line distance. Routes come from a transit service and are shown leg by leg, with the walking segments included.
- The app should be useful before you sign in. Saved lists live in the browser, and Firebase only comes into it if you want them synced across devices, so the directory works with no account and no keys configured.
